Mohammad Elyas Yari

Mohammad Elyas Yari founded Digital Pathway and is a Pathy Foundation Fellow. Originally from Afghanistan and now based in Canada, he brings lived experience of displacement, professional experience in refugee resettlement, and formal academic training in Global Development Studies. He is a graduate of Huron University at the University of Western Ontario.

Elyas founded Digital Pathway with the belief that displacement should never mean an end to learning. Under his leadership, the initiative mobilizes resources for community learning, equips physical community hubs, and connects refugee students with international mentors. Working alongside local partners, it supports Afghan refugee youth in Tajikistan, particularly girls and young women, through English learning, digital literacy, and leadership development.

His work focuses on helping students build a foundation for continued education, future careers, and meaningful participation in their communities. His approach begins with listening and builds on community strengths, ensuring that young people help shape the opportunities created for them.
